What Is Hot Stamping Or Foil Stamping?

With the progress of society, people have put forward higher requirements for books, periodicals, packaging and decoration printing. Not only the spectral colors are needed for printing, but also more advanced metallic colors.

Hot stamping is a printing method of relief printing in which pre-dried ink or foils are transferred to a surface at high temperatures. Anodized aluminum hot stamping is a special printing process, commonly known as hot stamping as well. It uses a certain pressure and temperature through the template installed on the hot stamping machine to make the printed matter and the hot stamping foil be pressed mutually in a short time, the graphics and texts of the hot stamping template are transferred to the surface of the hot printed matter.

As early as the ancient Egyptian period, there were gold and aluminum foils for decoration, but it was not until the 15th century that practical hot stamping techniques appeared. This type of technology used metal tools heated by an open flame to transfer the gold foil pattern onto the cover of a leather book. By the end of the 19th century, large gas-heated presses began to be used for the transfer of gold foil. In the past, gold ink was generally used for hot stamping, but gold ink was synthesized by brass powder and gold varnish. It will be oxidized and become dark and black when it is in contact with air for a long time. Later, gold foil (extremely thin foils synthetically pressed consisting of pure gold ) was used for hot stamping on the printed matter, and the effect was good. However, the gold foil is a precious metal, and it is impossible to use it in large quantities.

In the 1960s, did our trial production of hot stamping foil succeed. Its low cost can save a large amount of precious metals, and can be used for continuous hot stamping with machines, which doubles the efficiency. With the advent of new materials of anodized aluminum, the real gold hot stamping and silver hot stamping have been replaced by anodized aluminum hot stamping. Therefore, the hot stamping referred to now mostly means anodized aluminum hot stamping.

The application of hot stamping foil is an important innovation in the hot stamping process, making hot stamping a suitable industrial production method. The graphics and texts stamped by the anodized aluminum show a strong metallic luster, and the colors are bright and eye-catching. Especially gold and silver anodized aluminum makes the product have a high-end texture, with its gorgeous, refined and elegant features embellishing the appearance of the printed matter, and its brightness is much higher than that of printed gold and silver. At the same time, due to the excellent physical and chemical properties of the hot stamping foil, plus playing a role in protecting printed matter, the anodized aluminum hot stamping process is widely used in high-end and exquisite packaging and decoration, trademarks and book covers and other printed materials, as well as household appliances, construction and furnishing supplies, crafts and cultural goods.

Perfume packaging naturally has its place of foil stamping. The process can be applied to materials such as paper, leather, silk fabric, glass and plastic. If your perfume need hot stamping or other decoration, then please contact us freely.
